Overview: |
||
|   | Energy has an important role in the economy both nationally and globally, and concern over the cost and reliability of energy supplies in the future has been a source of great concern for centuries. Recent debates surround the future availability of nonrenewable fossil fuels, the role of renewable energy sources, and the capacity of conservation and energy efficiency improvements to significantly lower demand. The national security implications of reliance on international sources of energy are a concern, as are the impacts of rising energy prices on economic growth, the role of taxation, regulation and subsidies on energy policy and use; and the impact of energy policy on environmental quality including climate change.
A separate overview of each of the following topics can be seen by clicking on the topic: future availability of fossil fuels; the role of alternative energy sources; the role of energy efficiency; government taxes and subsidies; and energy's effect on environmental quality.
