Biographical Sketch
Dr. Gopinath is Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Director of the Applied Economics Graduate Program housed in the Graduate School. He is currently the Chair of the Executive Committee of the International Agricultural Trade Research Consortium (2011-2012), and has served as Associate Editor of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics (2004-2007) and Chair of the Selected Papers Committee of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association Annual Meeting in Chicago (2001).
Research Program
Dr. Gopinath's research interests include international trade, economic growth and development. Recent projects focus on:
- Heterogeneous firms’ responses to trade liberalization,
- Agglomeration of heterogeneous firms and regional economic disparities,
- Trade and environmental externalities such as the introduction of non-indigenous and harmful plant and animal species, and
- Agricultural policies in developing countries.
Some of these projects are funded by USDA/AFRI, Oregon Sea Grant/NOAA and IFPRI.
