Research Interest StatementProfessor McMullen has a variety of interests in the general area of public policy analysis. Most of her work is in the field of transportation economics where she has dealt with issues related to competition, regulation, efficiency, productivity, pricing, congestion, highway finance, environment, and economic development. Her current research involves assessing the distributional and social impacts of highway user fees and examining the impacts of airline code share agreements. She is also interested in business cycles and macroeconomic policy especially as it impacts Oregon and the northwest.Biographical SketchB. Starr McMullen has a Ph.D. on Economics from the University of California at Berkeley in where her work in transportation economics was supported by a fellowship from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. She is a Professor of Economics and Agricultural and Resource Economics, serving as Chair of the Economics Department from 2001-2005. In addition, she has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Hawaii, the University of California-Irvine and a Visiting Scholar at the University of Montreal.At the national level Professor McMullen was recently (2007) elected Program Vice-President Elect of the Transportation Research Forum (TRF) where she has served in various previous capacities including National Board of Directors and President of the Agricultural Transportation Chapter. She is past President of TPUG, the Transportation and Public Utilities Group of the American Economics Association (AEA), which is the oldest AEA affiliate group. Professor McMullen is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of the Transportation Research Forum (JTRF) and Transportation Research: Part E and is past editor of Research in Transportation Economics. At the state level Professor McMullen is in her second term as a member of the Oregon Governor's Council of Economics Advisors and served two terms on the Oregon Department of Transportation's Highway Cost Allocation Advisory Board. Professor McMullen is President of the Triad Faculty Club at Oregon State University and is the administrator for the Furman Fellowships in Transportation Economics.
