Biographical Sketch

Assistant Professor. Ph.D., Oregon State University, 2003. Research emphasis is on the economics of endangered species conservation, private enforcement of environmental regulations, land use, and the environmental and health implications of households' choice of cooking fuels. Past projects have focused on modeling incentives for conservation of endangered species on private land, assessing the effectiveness of government spending on endangered species recovery, modeling private enforcement of environmental regulation, and examining the choice of cooking fuels by households in developing countries and the implications for deforestation.

Current projects include empirical analyses of the effects of different criteria for allocating resources between endangered species, the effects of enforcement of the Clean Water Act through private lawsuits, the effects of local land use policies on environmental quality, and the effects of using wood as a cooking fuel on children's health. Publications have appeared in the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Land Economics, Environmental and Resource Economics, the Journal of Regulatory Economics, and Ecological Economics.
