Graduate Program Core Requirements

The core following program requirements apply to the M.S. and PhD degree programs in agricultural and resource economics. See the Graduate School website for core program requirements for the degrees in economics.

M.S. Prerequisites and Core Courses

The prerequisites for enrolling in the M.S. core courses are:

  • Intermediate microeconomic theory (AREC 311 and 312 or equivalent)
  • Intermediate macroeconomic theory (ECON 315 and 316 or equivalent)
  • Beginning statistical methods (ST 351 or equivalent)
  • Beginning econometrics (ECON 424 or equivalent)
  • Differential calculus (MTH 251 or equivalent)

The M.S. core courses are:

  • Microeconomic Theory (AREC 512, 513)
  • Macroeconomic Theory (ECON 515)
  • Statistics and Econometrics (AREC 523, 525)

Ph.D. Prerequisites and Core Courses

The prerequisites for enrolling in the PhD core courses are:

  • M.S. level microeconomic theory (AREC 512, 513 or equivalent)
  • M.S. level macroeconomic theory (ECON 515 or equivalent)
  • Integral and vector calculus (MTH 252, 253, 254 or equivalent)

The Ph.D. core courses are:

  • Statistics and econometrics (AREC 523, 525, 526)
  • Math for Economics (AREc 611)
  • Microeconomic Theory (AREc 612, 613
  • Macroeconomic Theory I (Econ 570)
